Although ceilings are low, the open-plan layout of the kitchen, dining and living rooms make this home ideal for a family or group of friends looking to wind down together after a day in the Marais.

A lush and leafy entrance in the lively North Marais hides an apartment with plenty of rustic charm. Exposed beams and stone walls give the place personality while the light-filled conservatory with a dining area and a TV are the star of the show. We found the distribution in the bedroom somewhat unusual as a mezzanine provides additional capacity for 2 more guests, although beware of the low ceiling height and lack of privacy. With this in mind, the space would suit a family of 3 or 4 who don't object to communal sleeping arrangements.

This four bedroom family home not far from the Canal Saint Martin and trendy South Pigalle has it all with its home cinema and charming attic bedrooms. The flat surfaces and contemporary design of the kitchen mix in will with the more vintage pieces in the home such as the aeroplane seats. A special mention for the living room bathed in sunlight - the ideal spot to relax in after a day of sightseeing.

This is an incredibly unusual property, located in the Marais and just a short walk from the Pompidou Centre. There are four bedrooms in three separate apartments, all arranged around a gorgeous private courtyard garden, making it a great home for groups and families who want a little added privacy during their stay. The interiors are neutral in colours with solid wood, marble and classic French chic. A truly luxurious retreat in central Paris!

This bright one-bedroom apartment is located in one of the coolest and liveliest districts of Paris - the Haut Marais. Those after a home with charm will appreciate its typically Parisian exposed timber beams and large French windows that flood the space with sunlight. At 430 square feet, it's unquestionably small but manages to pack a useful breakfast bar and a double sofa-bed. There are other compromises in exchange for its great location: there is no hanging space and the climb up to the second floor without a lift could be unpractical for some.

Maillol & Rodin is an exceptional three-bedroom apartment with an extraordinary curation of antiques and art. Live the quintessential French dream in this stunning home that oozes elegance and history. Although not the most central of locations, this charming one-bedroom apartment is tucked away but still close to Montmartre. A couple looking for a more off-the-beaten-track location would suit this space and are encouraged to visit the local Montmartre Cemetery for an afternoon stroll. As with many of the older buildings, it lacks lift access, although once you've made the climb you'll find yourself in a quaint space with a few original features and lots of wood - the place certainly has some personality.

Nestled on the quaint Île Saint-Louis, this home is all good taste and swagger with bespoke fittings, made-to-order furniture and a few iconic designer pieces. The expansive and attractive communal space is ideal for entertaining and if you're looking to host a corporate dinner or a photoshoot, this home is also available for event hire. Guests looking for a comfortable arrangement are also in luck: there's a quiet and charming bedroom in the cellar as well as an ensuite for every room.

You can ponder your next move whilst gazing at the orange tree in the courtyard, or be revitalised to catch up on emails by the shocking pink wall behind the desk. This a calm haven to retreat to after a busy day out or evening in the bars and restaurants of Cour des Petites Ecuries. 

The Hipster

Centrally located in the historic district of Les Halles and within walking distance from Paris' most famous sights, this small but mighty studio apartment won our hearts over with its light-filled main space and stylish accessories. Although the climb up to the apartment and the pull-down bed are not for everyone, a solo traveller or couple looking for an accesible central location will be more than comfortable here. Small does not mean poorly equipped: there's super-fast internet, a separate and fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities.

Studio Pinault

Cheerful, spacious and fully equipped, this pad is located less than 10 minutes from the Place de la Bastille whilst still remaining calm and set back from the busy street below. Although the interior isn't as elaborate as in other Plum homes, the location is the winner here. Be sure to visit the nearby Café de la Danse - perfect place to catch small gigs and discover new bands.

Onyx, mirrors, sparkling chandeliers, black leather, golden ornaments. This two bedroom apartment screams bling and art deco luxury at every turn. There’s a lavish master bedroom, a white marble bathroom with a TV in it and a well-equipped kitchen. It’s lucky you’ll be staying just a short stroll from the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees, as you may find it hard to leave! This apartment would be perfect for a couple with young children looking for an indulgent break. 

The Onyx-Mirror Game

Family or friends who prioritise space & comfort would do well here. Situated in a part of town that used to house Paris's main food market, the area is now known for its shopping & modern art centre. Not for those seeking a more minimalist, scandi aesthetic the home is oozing with colour & character. The open-plan living space is the heart of the home, with bright soft furnishings, parquet floors & high ceilings. With versatile sleeping arrangements like the option of twin beds or a king, the home is the ideal spot for a large family who want to stay in central Paris.

You’ll be wrapped up in sunshine walls, honey floors, and creamy comfort in this cosy one bedroom pied-à-terre. The bright yellow and orange decor might not be to everyone’s taste, but the apartment is set away from the busy streets of Le Marais in a quiet courtyard making it a peaceful spot to retreat to.

This two bedroom apartment is a truly luxurious home in a luxurious neighbourhood. You’ll be surrounded by majestic quartz floors, marble bathrooms, a granite kitchen and onyx walls in the living room. There's also an Art Deco feel, with sparkling Murano glass chandeliers, quietly posing sculptures and mirrors a-plenty. With the sumptuous master bed and huge TV, it may be hard to leave - but you'll have some encouragement with the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées only a short stroll away.

This two-bedroom apartment nestled in the 7th arrondissement is in close proximity to world-class museums and the Eiffel Tower. Once inside, original exposed beams and a warm colour scheme provide this home with a cosy feel, while the kitchen and bathrooms are spotless and functional. Twin beds in the second bedroom and the central location make it ideal for a family of four looking to visit Paris' main sights.

You’ll be right in centre of Le Marais and just a short stroll from Norte Dame in this one bedroom apartment. Entering through a luscious greenery-filled courtyard, you can leave the bustle of the city behind and retreat to this cool, stone-walled apartment. It's small and the decor is neutral, but it would make for a very quiet spot to stay in the heart of Paris. A perfect base for a busy weekend exploring the city. 

The Stone Nook

You’ll wake up to a view of the Eiffel Tower and Montparnasse Tower in this one bedroom apartment. It’s located in the residential Montparnasse neighbourhood - there’s art next door at Institut Giacometti or Fondation Cartier, and Cimetiere du Montparnasse and the Catacombs are also close by should skulls and bones be more your thing! The apartment is comfortable and well equipped, with some flashes of glamour in the oak panelled wall and mirrored kitchen cabinets. It's flooded with light from its many windows, and has a small terrace ideal for evening drinks.

Minimalist and airy, this pad is located on one of Paris' most lively streets, rue de Charonne, and is just around the corner for the Bastille Square.   The famous Bread Daily is right on your doorstep - the ideal spot for Sunday brunch after a night of dancing t to the rhythm of Cuban music at Barrio Latino. The perfect spot for 2 young couples or friends, this home can comfortably fit four people looking for the perfect Parisian night out. The built-in sound system in the shower is a great bonus - ideal for those who want to unleash their inner Madonna in the mornings.

Fête De La Bastille

Indulge in luxury at every turn in this one-bedroom apartment to the north of the 7th District. The apartment sits on a quiet street behind the picturesque Rue Saint Dominique, and is a short walk to Musee d’Orsay and Les Invalides. Decorated with a blend of contemporary and antique styles, you can dine at a marble table in the kitchen, catch up on emails in the dedicated office area and relax with a glass of wine on a summer evening, surrounded by flowers, on the 10m2 terrace.

This compact one-bedroom apartment in a 17th-century block has retained its charming exposed wooden beams but has otherwise been thoroughly modernised. What it lacks in personality it more than makes up for in the location stakes - it's niched on the exclusive Île Saint-Louis. Perfect as a pied-à-terre, a small family looking to explore the sights would fit right in.

L'Util

On the border of Paris' exclusive 8th and 17th arrondissements, this one bedroom apartment has it all location-wise. You're a short stroll from the Champs Elysées as well as avenue Montaigne's high end shops, and there's even an open-air market on rue Poncelet for grocery shopping. Although the smart interior may lack some personality, there's plenty of space for a couple or even four guests with the use of a sofa bed.

This one-bedroom apartment is located in the historic heart of Paris, the famous Île de la Cité, also home to the Notre-Dame Cathedral. This cosy home owes its charm to its many decorative period features – think intricate woodwork and a marble fireplace – as well as tranquil views over Place Dauphine and the rooftops of Paris. A couple with a taste for the finer things in life will make the most out of this home with luxury amenities, such as classic silverware, and its fantastic location – very quiet but close enough to all the popular central attractions.

This exceptional apartment in a 19th-century building has been furnished in the classic style of its time but borrows details from other eras. Art lovers will appreciate the array of paintings and sculptures, an endless source of awe and entertainment which more than makes up for the lack of television - we certainly didn't miss it. Its location in the 8th arrondissement matches the home in luxury and sophistication with plenty of upscale boutiques and a few Michelin-starred restaurants nearby. 

Galerie des Glaces

A large family or group looking to stay near Canal Saint-Martin need look no further. This three-bedroom apartment of generous proportions and multiple communal spaces can be transformed into a four-bed with the use of a sliding door. The home has busy interiors with lots of character and personality so would suit those with a taste for the bold and eclectic. We loved the spacious and well equipped kitchen with lots of space for cooking, although dinner party-lovers should note that the only dining space is the breakfast bar in the kitchen.

Le Trapéziste

Located in the Arsenal neighbourhood in the 4th arrondissement, this is a great spot within arm's reach of the Marais and other central attractions but without having to put up with the flocks of tourists. Perched high up in the 7th floor, this one-bedroom apartment's expansive views over Paris' rooftops are magnificent, making its compact terrace the perfect spot for a romantic late afternoon drink. Air-conditioning guarantees cool nights in the summer and although the shower and basin are integrated in the bedroom, we found it to be a rather practical distribution.

Bastille Skies

The perfect family vacation rental, situated five minutes from Jasmin metro station. Boasting two spacious bedrooms, the master includes a delightful balcony that looks out onto the entrance of the Corbusier Foundation. The second twin bedroom has ample storage space and would be the ideal spot for kids. It should be noted that the location is not very central, but it's a very safe neighbourhood that's great for families. A lovely practical apartment for a stress-free holiday with the kids. 

White Jasmin

Form and function go hand in hand in this one-bedroom Marais pad that's all about open-plan but cosy living. The kitchen, living and dining areas are all decorated in a subtle Scandinavian style and there are lots of snugs perfect for lazy afternoon relaxing. Nestled in the centre of the Marais, you're only ever minutes away from brunch spots, cafés, art galleries and concept stores.

The perfect apartment for a couple of art-lovers, this bright duplex has a roof garden overlooking the rooftops of Paris, a mere stone's throw away from the Louvre. Situated on a quiet street, but still five minutes away from the Palais Royale and Châtelet, this truly is a gem. Sprawling across the 6th and 7th floor of this block and south facing, sun streams into each room. A word of caution, however, it can get extremely hot in the summer months and there's no air conditioning.

Located in the more residential 17th arrondissement, this pad is the ideal spot for those looking for an authentic Parisian neighbourhood away from the hordes of tourists. We fell in love with this home’s original features paired with simple but smart interiors. Its open-plan communal space gets flooded with sunlight through large French windows, that also lead onto a small but quaint terrace. Although a single bathroom for 6 guests is a bit of a stretch, with proper shower discipline you'll be out of the door and exploring Paris in no time.

The American Diner

This two-bedroom apartment in the heart of the Marais offers a simple, contemporary space with an adequate list of amenities to keep you comfortable. Perhaps not for those seeking a more plush experience, the interiors are quite simple, but it does offer more than the average Parisian home. There's lift access, a portable A/C unit and you're in a super convenient location. We found the kitchen was more on the basic side (albeit still practical), although there are so many great local recommendations that we don't think you'll spend much time cooking.

Red Rhino

Located in the neighbourhood between Trocadéro and Arc de Triomphe, this locale has an upscale feel and is close to many sights, without the disturbance of the central Parisian bustle. The bones of the home are traditionally Parisian with intricate marble fireplaces, elegant herringbone parquet, large French windows and high ceilings, but the host has chosen a more contemporary look for the furnishings, creating a cool juxtaposition of styles. All in all, this home's ideal for a family visiting Paris for the first time given the quiet setting and proximity to attractions.
