About Santa Croce
Santa Croce is a trendy, architecturally impressive neighbourhood that’s less busy than the Duomo or San Marco districts, but still in the heart of Florence. Home to the eponymous basilica, and the Casa Buonarroti museum, it’s located in the eastern part of Florence’s historic centre. The largest crowds have thinned out by this point, but if you stay here, you're still close enough to explore the whole city on foot....
Explore the area
Local restaurants, cafes, museums, sites and activities, recommended by our community of hosts and travel experts

Browse the food at Sant'Ambrogio market
Less touristy than Mercato Centrale, this is where locals come to get the freshest produce and the best selection of meat, bread, and cheese.

Get a coffee at Caffè Le Murate
A combination of a bookshop, a cafe, and a gallery, this arts centre is housed in a former prison, but these days the vibe is slightly different.

Pay respects at Basilica di Santa Croce
Many of Florence's most eminent citizens are buried in the Franciscan church, including Galileo, Machiavelli, and Michelangelo.

Kick back to jazz at Empireo
A rooftop hotel bar, not only does this place have stunning views of the city, but there's regular live music.

Catch a show at Teatro della Pergola
This spectacular opera house from the seventeenth century hosts over 250 performances a year, and is home to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival.

Turn the pages at Libreria Brac
A bookshop, a vegetarian restaurant, and a bar – you could quite happily spend all day at this hidden gem.

Help yourself at All'Antico Vinaio
With great food at fantastic prices, and a self-service wine bar stocked with local vintages, it's no wonder that the clientele often spills onto the streets.

Watch the river at Chiosco il Tempio
On the banks of the Arno, this bar is one of the best places for an evening aperitivo away from the tourists.

Wander through Giardino delle Rose
The roses are most impressive in spring, but the views are good at any time of year.

See the frescoes at Palazzo Vecchio
Florence's town hall, this palace also holds some masterpieces, most notably in the imposing Salone del Cinqucento.

Brave the crowds at the Uffizi
There's a reason it's busy – from Leonardo and Botticelli through to Rembrandt, this is one of the most important collections of European art in the world.

This home is managed by Lorenzo
This home is managed by a business on behalf of its owner. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Lorenzo and his colleagues look after a fair number of homes around Florence, so you know that you're in good hands with them. Not only are they as professional as you'd expect for such an operation, but they are all very friendly as well.
