Believe it or not, one of the Kray twins once got married in this beautiful cocoon. The apartment, located on busy Bethnal Green Road – be warned, light sleepers – is part of former a church, hence the unexpected link to organised crime. Today it more closely resembles heaven thanks to those alabaster gables, floors, sofas and double rainfall showers with Aesop toiletries. Such a zen-like retreat is just the ticket after walks around buzzing Brick Lane or arty, hipster Shoreditch.

About Shoreditch

Even if you don't end up actually staying here, Shoreditch is a must-see part of London for any visitor. Its mix of filmset-perfect cobbled streets of early Georgian townhouses sit alongside converted warehouses and graffiti murals aplenty. Many of the artist residents who first made the area hip have had to move away on account of rising house prices, but there's still plenty to see and the area is ram-packed full of small galleries, independent boutiques and some of London's coolest bars and restaurants.
